Summer 2014 Festivals

As the "Festival Capital of the Southwest" Telluride hosts more than 30 summer festivals and events each year. The season kicks-off in May with the Mountainfilm Festival and runs through to the end of September. Festivals range from the renowned, including The Bluegrass Festival in June and the Telluride Film Festival in September to the more specialized like the Mushroom Festival or the Telluride Chamber Music Festival in August.

Mountainfilm is a distinctive blend of films, speakers, gallery exhibits, slide presentations, and seminars that demonstrate the power of visual arts to instigate change. Nestled within Telluride's dramatic box canyon, this tribal gathering of legendary mountaineers, filmmakers, photographers, scientists, activists and artists invite you to join them in an event that wishes to inspire and educate. In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act, this year's symposium theme is "Wilderness".

 

31st Annual Telluride Balloon Festival
 June 6-8, 2014

Each year, hot air balloons line up in Town Park, Telluride and take off for a beautiful flight over Main Street towards the valley floor.  The skies above Telluride fill with colorful hot-air balloons, and at sunset, the balloons line up on Main Street for the annual balloon glow. A great event for all ages, the Telluride Balloon Festival is a beautiful event enjoyed by all. 

 

The 41st Telluride Bluegrass Festival
 June 19-22, 2014

The Telluride Bluegrass Festival brings thousands of bluegrass fans to Telluride for the summer's biggest festival. Now in its 41st year, the festival has welcomed Mumford & Sons, David Byrne, Bonnie Raitt, Lyle Lovett and other legendary acts.  This year's lineup includes Chris Thile, Bela Fleck and the Colorado Symphony, Leftover Salmon, Sam Bush Band, Yonder Mountain String Band, Ray Lamontagne, and many more.

 

Telluride Wine Festival
 June 26-29, 2014

Take delight in expanding your wine knowledge by attending winemaker luncheons and dinners, reserve tastings and special seminars. Complement the experience by attending one or more of our culinary demonstrations featuring the industry's most talented personalities. Visit Telluride this June - come for the wine, come for the food, come for the beauty.

 

10th Annual Telluride Plein Air
 June 29-July 5, 2014

Each year, Telluride Plein Air hosts 20-30 nationally renowned Plein Air artists in Telluride.  This presents a unique opportunity to observe some of the nation's best plein air artists as they paint on location in Telluride, Colorado. Elks Park and the courtyard located in front of the historic Sheridan Opera House will be reserved for an exhibition and sale of the pieces created during this week-long celebration of plein air painting!

 July 4, 2014

Join the town of Telluride in our Fourth of July Celebration! Enjoy the parade on Main Street (Colorado Avenue) and a series of events hosted by Telluride's Volunteer Fire Department including a picnic, kids' games, and a spectacular firework show!

 

Telluride Yoga Festival July 10-13, 2014

Join us for three full days of yoga with the opportunity to experience an array of lineages; from the traditional to the innovative, the most physical to the gentle and restorative. The weekend promises to be inspiring and illuminating with yoga, meditation, kirtan,  seminars and performances, all enjoyed in the incomparable Telluride and the breathtaking San Juan mountain range.

 

The Ride Festival
 July 12-13, 2014

The Ride Festival brings rock and roll music to the main stage in Town Park, Telluride.  On Friday, the festival opens with a free concert in Mountain Village, then continues through the weekend.  In the past, the festival has hosted legendary acts including David Byrne & St. Vincent, Big Head Todd and The Monsters, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Cake, Dive-By Truckers, Steve Earle, Buddy Miller, Son Volt and more.

 

Telluride Americana Music Fest
 July 16-19, 2014

The Telluride Americana Music Fest brings 3 nights of acousitc songwriter music to the Historic Sheridan Opera House in Telluride.  This year's lineup includes Holly Williams, Bruce Robison & Kelly Willis, Eric Bibb, Carrie Elkin & Danny Schmidt, The Birds of Chicago, Scott Miller, and Greg Trooper. 

 

Telluride Jazz Festival
 August 1-3, 2014

Since 1977, Telluride Jazz Festival has grown to become one of the premier Jazz fesitvals in the nation.  Performances take place on two outdoor stages during the day and continue in Telluride's historic theaters and clubs at night.  This year's lineup includes Lettuce, Dragon Smoke, Snarky Puppy, Grupo Fantasma, Poncho Sanches, Jon Cleary and many more.  

 

Telluride Chamber Music Festival
 August 7-17, 2014

The Telluride Chamber Music Festival features chamber music masterpieces played by violin, cello, piano, clarinet and other inustrments in an intimate setting.  The festival kicks off on August 7th with a casual evening of chamber music in the park, and ends with a free children's concert highlighting up and coming young chamber musicians.

 

Telluride Mushroom Festival
 August 16-19, 2014

The 33rd annual Telluride Mushroom Festival celebrates the many uses of fungi, from breaking down plant cellulose in nature to creating nutrients for plants.  This year's theme is "Mushroom Science", featuring workshops, keynotes, mushroom hunting and more.   Each summer festival-goers gather to pick, discuss, parade, and eat for an information filled weekend. 

 

Telluride Film Festival
 August 29-September 1, 2014

The Telluride Film Festival, now in its 41st year, draws thousands of devoted movie lovers from all over the world.  The festival features seminars, conversations, and film screenings, including premier's of some of the year's top films.  Over the years, Telluride Film Festival has become known as one of the predictors for the Academy Awards.

 

Telluride Blues & Brews Festival
 September 12-14, 2014

The Telluride Blues & Brews Festival features three days of world-renowned musicians performing live on the famous Telluride Town Park stage, and 50 choice microbreweries serving up their handcrafted brews during Saturday's Grand Tasting.  This year's lineup includes Violent Femmes, George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic, The Robert Cray Band, Anders Osborne, Dumpstaphunk, Shakey Graves, Ryan McGarvey and many more.
